Ranger PX XLT Double Cab in Metro Grey

Postby marauder » Sat Jul 06, 2013 4:30 pm

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a used 2011 Ford Ranger PX XLT double cab, 3.2L diesel 6 speed auto, in Metro gray. The previous owner already did a few upgrades including:

Hard tonneau cover (gas lift)
Snorkel
Old Man Emu 2" lift kit
Advanti 17" wheels with 285/70/17 Cooper ST-MAXX tyres
Stainless 3" exhaust with high-flow cat
Alloy nudge bar
3 x Lightforce Genesis HID driving lights (2 x spot, 1 x flood) on nudge bar
Thule roof racks

Just got the car back from having some upgrades done...

  • Remove alloy nudge bar and 3 x Lightforce Genesis HID spotlights.
  • Remove the HID headlight upgrade kit that previous owner had fitted (was dazzling other drivers), fit Phillips H4 +80% halogen globes instead.
  • ARB Sahara Bar with polished centre tube and fog lights
  • ARB recovery point
  • ARB under guard
  • PIAA LP570 LED driving lights

Will take some photos soon.

That's a real nice looking vehicle, be interested in seeing the "after" pics 8-) and your opinion of the LED driving lights.

Bloody good work, had a knob in a falcon blinding me with his and it wasn't even dark, would have hated to have him sharing the road with me at night.

I'm loving the car so far. Still getting used to the size of it though - can't park it for crap!

Second hand or new doesnt matter but DANG!!!!! Youve got the rest of my list ticked off.

Piaa were a great light years ago... Is there a specific reason you ditched the Lightforces? If they were already there Id be happy to keep them.
I think ill end up with IPF's myself one day.

Thanks guys.

Trentski: this is my first 4x4 so I have no idea what I'm doing off-road. But yes I was thinking the same about the tow hook!

Thirsty: there was nothing wrong with the Lightforce Genesis HIDs. I was just attracted to the fact that the PIAAs are LED and don't have that warm up time to come to full brightness, and they use less power. There was no really good reason for changing over though.

Bignic: I have nothing to compare the OME suspension to, as I bought the car with it already fitted, and I haven't taken it off road yet, but the ride is quite comfortable and I am happy with it. I think it has the softer spring rates, which suits me fine as I'm not planning on doing any towing. Let's just say that with the extra ride height it feels very different compared to my previous rides, which were all lowered, like a Skyline, Mitsubishi Evo, and a Ford FG XR6T!

Nice looking Truck. I have a Metro Grey Wildtrak on order and its nice to see quality photos of same colour.

May I ask what Nudge Bar was on the Ranger in the 'before' photo's, is it the EGR Low Loop? Thanks.

Nice looking mate, have the same colour myself and they look great at different angles with a change of light.
Interested to know how the 3" exhaust goes with fuel/economy and the likes!
Cheers

The nudge bar looks better but the sahara looks good too.
the only issue I have seen with most bars are the dodgy bit that's cut below the head lights and looks like a tacked on afterthought.
The finish should of better quality.
Just cant see why the section that looks like its missing around the end couldn't be added when cutting the
plastic bumper to make the job look complete.

I was at my local TJM today, they are working on a T3 Bar (their version of the Sahara). This bar is designed so that the bumper of the Ranger is not cut, they remove the lower section in full and have designed fillers to fit in where other brands make a cut. They had a Ranger there and showed me. It looked very professional. The T3 bar will also have LED indicators and parking lights, but more importantly they are replacing the Fog Lights with street Legal LED Daylight Running Lights because many states have outlawed the use of fog lights if on when not foggy. I will definately be waiting for this instead of the ARB product.

Love the Metro Grey, I would have chosen Metro Grey over my Gold but my car was a demonstrator and readily available from the dealer's yard so I bought it rather than waiting months and also the price was right, I am happy. Awesome photos by the way, looks like you know what to do with a camera :-)
Love the ARB Bull bar, I prefer the black to a full chrome, it looks great, enjoy!

aja88: I think the original bar is the ECB 76mm Nudge Bar (it's actually for sale - see the for sale section).

ROCKET0407: 3" exhaust sounds good, not overly loud. Fuel economy is not great but I am a bit of a leadfoot so that is a factor too! Also it has a some sort of Diesel Smart

Fazzer1980: happy with the Cooper so far, still haven't been properly off-road yet though.

fishwenican: agree that the small missing section below the headlight with the Sahara bar is fitted does not look that great.

Cheers!

Rousey: I paid $535 for the ARB under-guard and $273 for the ARB recovery point. Had it fitted together with some other stuff so labour extra.

Thanks for the info on the Nudge Bar, I have decided when my Ranger arrives I will get a Bull Bar as more practical, and I know after 6 months I would swap it out anyway... :D
