Re: Snorkel Recommendation
I wonder about the efficiency of rear facing inlets. Passing air would create some suction and compromise air flow into the snorkel, at least my brain says that it would. I do know that some years ago on my long gone 2.5TD Courier I fitted a Donaldson precleaner instead of the ram head and performan...

Re: Wiring a CB
I'm setting mine up ATM. I run a fused feed from the battery up under the glove box and mount relays and more fuses there for my extras. The relays are triggered by the lower left cig lighter outlet. For the CB and some extra 12 v and USB outlets they are fed from a timer relay, which means that the...

Re: Ranger delivery wait times
Just been notified that our XLS ordered a month or so ago scheduled for 31/03/2022 is now on the never never. Dealer is trying to find out if it will be made and delivered.

Re: Ranger delivery wait times
I ordered a new XLS a couple of days ago, delivery scheduled for 31/03/2022. My local dealer doesn't sell manuals for some reason they couldn't explain, so ordered elsewhere. Gives me time to collect the farkles, and I may swap some stuff from my 2011 BT50. Definitely keeping the 12 Mazda alloys for...

Re: Best Off road/4WD maps?
I have lots of paper maps, including a full set of Rooftops. I mostly use Aus/NZ Topo from Garmin on my Montana, bike and 4wd. Route/track planning in Basecamp is a doddle, with occasional references to some paper and/or Google Earth, recommended.

Re: New Ford Fan
Good choice trotters FWIW I believe that the Tojos have always/often been overrated. They've managed the market very well though, by not discounting at retail, and discounting heavily into fleets. This has resulted in high retained values that make them good business decisions for fleets, and their ...

Re: Potential snow trip - Sunday 2nd July
Yep, frozen diesel happens. Usually in the fuel line under the car. Add some diesel anitfreeze to be sure. I was heading to Melb as it happens a month or so ago one Fri morning. Purely by coincidence, the Ranger we caught up to failed to proceed over Sawyers Hill near Kiandra. He'd filled up in Grif...

Re: parking lights on everytime the doors open
Apart form the double flash, if you open a door before you turn off the engine the parkers don't some on. As long as you don't fully close that door, then they stay off. I leave my driver's door cracked open in the carport here at home and no issues for up to 3 weeks so far without driving it, and c...

Re: When DTE = 0, does diesel engine get shut down?
As I said above, the BT50 Ranger clone DOES shut down at about -20 kms, but DTE stays on zero.
If you are only guessing, why comment?

Re: When DTE = 0, does diesel engine get shut down?
My BT50 goes for another 20 kms then shuts down, DTE stays on 0. Still fuel in tank, so hasn't run dry. Ranger may be the same.

Re: long range fuel tanks
FWIW the Brown Davis tank retains the stock relationship of the pump to the bottom of the tank. The top of the tank is above the top of the pump. But the computer issues remain, its not as simple as it seems.

The fuel pump is always sucking from the bottom of the tank, just the gauge float floats on the top.Trolling Dirt wrote:Designed that way possibly so you don't suck up the crap out of the bottom of the tank to help you incase you get a dose of cheap dodgey fuel.

I'm just up the road with similar temps and its the same in winter. Full glow helps, get a feel and crank just before it goes out for best results.

Re: Has any one got a long range tank fitted
My fuel gauge and DTE operate almost straight away, even though the float doesn't move for 5-600 kms. Its the programming of the system and why they have been problematic in the past to get right. Older installations like my previous Courier work as decribed, but not my BT50 and presumably the Range...

Re: Has any one got a long range tank fitted
Not sure about the Fords, but the BT50s have issues with the fuel sender. For some reason the gauge is not only driven by the sender but fuel flow information and the computer will not allow the tank to run dry. When the computer decides I have 80 kms to empty, it flashes up low fuel and counts down...

Some data here:

Bottom line, at suburban speeds, no, at highway speeds, yes, maybe, but if it does, not much.
