Re: Imagine living with yourself...
I've removed and reinstalled heaps on the wheel well flap when changing my filter. I just use a sharp metal pick to get the centre bit out a few mm, then get my side cutting pliers to pull them out. When re-installing just separate the 2 bits, install the base then the centre part.

Re: Flipping centre bearing
Undo 2 bolts, flip it round and put bolts back in. Make sure you mark/measure the original position in case you need to put it back. When reinstalling, spend some time lining it up, there is quite a bit of adjustment and it's easy to not get the alignment correct.

Re: vibration
Rangers seem to be hit and miss with vibrations - some have none and some have lots! I have changed centre bearing, UJs, had driveshaft balanced, removed dampener, tailshaft spacers. They all get rid of a vibration but soon enough another one pops up. I gave up and just put up with it, only a small ...

Re: helper springs
Some here have modified their existing springs. The rear leaf springs have one leaf that is curved downwards - they remove it, turn it around and reassemble. This gives about 15-20mm lift which then sits level when towing with only a little more harshness when unladen. Airbags are another option tha...

You are correct, just get out there and try it first. See if you can borrow some gear from mates and go to a caravan park to ease the missus into it. Keep it close-ish to home (<2hrs) so if it goes pear shaped or you forgot something or you need more clothes it's not such a big deal. You hear many s...

Another thing to check, when the tailshaft was removed to take out the balancer, maybe it wasn't re-installed straight? There is a lot of adjustment in the 2 centre bearing mounting bolts, care needs to be taken to get it right. Also check if the tailshafts are at the same angle. Using a level app o...

Have you tried swapping the wheels/tyres with another Ranger?
Does the vibration feel like it comes through the steering wheel (front end issue) or through the seat (rear end issue)?

Do a 4x4 course, great place to learn and ask questions without your mates giving you crap haha! You will learn all the basics including how to do a recovery safely. Well that I can't help you with! What area are you in, people here can probably advise a reliable mechanic. I sounds like you sort of know what to look for but not enough to be confident with your testing. As above, a couple hours at a good mechanic should have you in the right direction without spending on tools you'll never use again. I'm not a full bottle on it myself but I try and research to understa...

Where are you located? Firstly get FORSCAN and check for any error codes. Oil leaks are most likely not connected to your other issues. A V6 engine can be used in many sized vehicles from passenger cars to utes to vans to whatever. Inline 6 would be limited in that regard and in today's manufacturing world that is it's biggest drawback.
