Re: PHEV on the way?
I don't see the point of plug in hybrids. It seems to take the disadvantages of EV and ICE and combines them. If I need to plug the thing in, just give me a full electric. Otherwise an ordinary hybrid would be better. PHEV just has one more option to plug into charge over HEV vehicles, to be honest...

Know what you mean about the Gillies We did a day trip leaving the van at Cairns Kuranda, Mareeba, Atherton then down the Gillies - its just went for ever and ever Half way down there was a sizeable van stopped dead, right on a tight bend causing all kinds of problems for traffic coming up and down...

Re: Getting Ranger Ready for Touring
Just seeking a bit of advice on an issue mentioned in previous posts When I was on that Talbingo descent I was trying to use engine braking. Pretty much ineffective as the Ranger and rig would just pull away and the revs spin higher I dont think I ever got down to 1st gear (maybe for a few seconds)...

Yes Talbingo is a steep one, and as you say very limited opportunity to pull over. I hope you sorted out the van brakes as well when you got home. When going down long steep descents I like to adjust the van brakes to apply just a little more braking than the Ranger. That way, the more capable brak...

I have had my 2012 XLT auto since new, only mods I had is snorkel, fuel pre filter and some overload helper springs, rest of ranger is stock standard; I have towed my caravan (1.8T) all over Australia roughly doing about 60,000ks in the 11 years of ownership, ranger has not missed a beat. I’m having the same problem with mine (330,xxx 2012 auto) I’m going to follow up the bypass valve now. I just replaced turbo and injectors thinking it was to do with that. How did you figure out it was the bypass valve and how much did it cost to fix? So Carlin, what was your issue? Mine the same s...

I find the prices can be a hit & miss with dealerships, don't know if you remember but when the rangers were first released some had issues with oil filter housings leaking, my one was replaced under warranty in the first 12 months of ownership. Re: Bullbar Wiring Issues
The body control module will detect a different resistance if you fit extra lights, this will trigger the BCM's circuit protection, this is why they disable the lights when adding the bar. The BCM runs a solid-state circuit protection system that monitors the load and resistances of the vehicles el...

Well I'm not really sure it's top gear (6th) but it's a higher gear, it changes just on 60kph, it maybe 5th. I'll try it in S mode then I'll know which gear for sure. When in sport mode it will be different gear compared to normal, just drive it normally and when it changes at 60kph then put it in ...

You should not be in top gear doing 60kph which will cause the engine to labour which also may cause vibration in your driveline, I find my ranger will sit between 4th & 5th gear at that speed.

V6 will be better for more heavy towing but will be thirsty for urban driving where the Bi Turbo will be more economical to run but still quite capable for most towing.

I found with some engines I worked on there might be a slight carbon build up on the piston bore creating a slight lip which prevents easy removal, I found if you work (move) the piston up and down it will eventually free itself from the bore.
