It's coming next week

Post by l0n3r4ng3r »

Hi,

My first Ranger is coming next week, so I have signed up here. It will be a 3.2L Diesel 2021 Ford Ranger PX MkIII 2021.25MY XLT White 6 Speed Sports Automatic Double Cab. It has the Tech Pack (adaptive cruise control, assisted parking). Other extras on it will be black 18" wheels, electric brake controller and soft cover.

I tow a small van, hence the electric brake controller. I will also need to sort out the trailer plug(s) etc. Probably get an Anderson plug added.

A bit apprehensive about how it is going to fit in the garage. My garage width is 234 cm, and height clearance under the garage door is 229cm. I think I will need to fold the mirrors in to make it easier. :)

So, just saying hello until I take delivery mid-next-week.

Hey mate, welcome on board and look forward to pics.

Out of interest how long is your garage? These are long utes and you need room to move around.

Cheers, DJ

The answer is that it depends :) If I remove the work bench at the far end, I have 7 metres. So it comes down to juggling positioning of workspaces and cupboards. Luckily it's a double garage that will only have the Ranger in it.

You will be fine hightwise, my garage door height is exactly 2 meters.

Thanks. The sales person mentioned the little rubber aerial can be unscrewed, but hoping we don't have to do that just to drive into the garage.

Mine's a very tight fit. I have a line of insulating tape on the garage floor, down the middle ending in a T-shape. So long as I reverse with the steering straight and the towball tracking down the line, and then stop when the rear edge of the car is directly above the top of the T, then the car will fit. I have at least 1cm clearance on the passenger mirror through the door, and at least 1-2cm each end allowing me to close the garage and open the tailgate. If I'm not lined up on the tape then it's probably not going to work.

Gotta love the modern tech these days, makes this so easy. Better than a tennis ball swinging on some string. :)

Also sounds like you have plenty of height, but you can replace the roof antenna with a shorter one, I did that so it stays underneath the platform rack I have.

Some good tips. I like the tape-on-the-floor idea.

Done. Had a solenoid fitted in the ignition circuit, to prevent flat batteries, and heavy cable wired to an Anderson plug. Added an Anderson plug to the van to power the fridge, and replaced the 7 pin flat with a 12 pin plug, so it's the same as the Ranger (the 7 pin was old and cruddy anyway).

Took the van for a test run, and checked the brake controller that Ford fitted. Pretty sure it's a redarc controller - same control and LED colours anyway.

All working great. The Ranger doesn't even feel any different with my little van on the back. Time to hit the highway.
