Hi all, Bluey from Qld.
I have had a PX ranger for a few years. Does anyone have the compression test pressure for these 3.2 Diesels? I have exhausted all web avenues to find the compression to no avail.
Was liking it until a recent trip to the tip and it s*** itself under acceleration, a small pop and massive crankcase pressure blew oil over hot surfaces. The friend behind told me the car was on fire, but no, just lots of smoke. Engine runs (no apparent miss) and apart from ecu limp mode taking over runs ok. Wasn't hot and didn't lose coolant. I'm curious if a turbo seal failure could pressurize the crankcase.
Car is still up the cape until available transport can get it home.

Re: Newby mid Qld.
Could it be a blocked catch can, or full of oil that you haven't drained for a while?
Re: Newby mid Qld.
Thanks for the reply Gerry,
No oil in the catch can. That in itself worries me a bit as I have around 3000kls on the vehicle since installing.
I did a very rough calculation of atm pressure at sea level of 14.7 by compression ratio of 15.7 answer 230 lbpsi.
I know this is not the actual number as variables like cam timing and other factors play a part. I thought someone here may have the actual comp pressure. When I get the car home and find the problem I will write a post on the forum to let others know.

Re: Newby mid Qld.
Strange... especially if the car is running OK now. Just along similar lines, seeing as the catch can is fairly new and the fact that it's empty, I'd double check the hoses and also the catch can itself to make sure it isn't partially blocked or otherwise restricted. What brand and model is it and are the connections the same size as the hoses or are they smaller? Some catch cans are actually too small for the Ranger and have smaller hose connections.
Not sure what else to suggest...

Hi Garry,
It's a pro vent 200 knockoff and all hoses and fittings are the same large size as stock.
I am thinking it maybe a head gasket but only blown to an oil hole, don't know if that is possible but stranger things have happened.
At the moment i am up s*** creek until i can get the vehicle transported from Weipa to home then it gets real.
Thanks again Garry.

Re: Newby mid Qld.
BTW vehicle was fine for around 4 thousand kilometers including with the catch can on.
It all started with a quietish pop while passing a car.

Re: Newby mid Qld.
A quietish pop sounds like a turbo hose
