New server needed or Forum will close

Ok people have been informed by out tech that the website needs a new server otherwise the forum is going to finish approx the middle of this month so if anyone
can help ASAP pm me .

Have tried to contact Macmanluke but so far haven't had a reply as he indicated he could help some time ago but he no longer has a Ranger .

yeah saeb is the man. i think?? he runs his own server which enables him to run his forum.

One possible solution is to have a PayPal Donation or another method to donate online where members can donate to help keep this great forum running.
Advertising might be another solution to bring in revenue for the forum as a lot forums do have this feature.

Sounds like all in hand, but don't be shy about holding the cap out for donations. The forum is valuable, and none of this stuff is free to provide.

I think advertising is a good option

Seen a few forums charge and hasn’t been successful. The problem existing members are usually fine it’s attracting new members

Ok looks like our tech guy has managed to sort something with the server so that is looking promising but will probably need to do a paypal donation for those willing to support the forum .

From assisting in making the decision on what vehicle to buy, through getting ideas for improvements and mods, to great advice on trips and places (plus the odd bit of banter- not to mention the good/bad humour!), I've appreciated the existence of this forum greatly. Paypal donation... I'm in.

Just a thought. The Prado Point forum I used to belong to required an annual fee of $50 which enabled full benefits of the Forum and ability to connect via Tapatalk. They also included an annual Calendar which was made from the best voted Prado orientated pictures over the previous 12 months.

I have no idea what sort of money we are talking about, but I agree that it would be difficult to attract new members to the forum if you had to pay. There are many forums that are free so I think most people would just move on. I personally don't mind paying for a service, but with so much free stuff on the net I doubt it would work. Some form of sponsorship would be the way to go.
Are we talking about a one off cost, or an ongoing cost, on how much?

I reckon make it voluntary and reasonable. Fair play and peer-pressure usually take care of it, and it doesn't discourage the occasional or new users.

Will have to wait and see what solution Simon come up with, usually donations, advertising & sponsorship keeps most forums viable.

will be happy to send a few $$$ in to keep this place afloat and AD-FREE. i own part of an internet based company and have represented web-based cos for years. the problem with ad-based revenue is that it's a slippery slope: display ads are often annoying and people then start using ad-blockers. advertisers figure this out and refuse to pay the same rate. spiraling downward revenue.

sponsorships work well, so long as the buy-in ain't too steep.
