A more or less durable , steering wheel cover
A more or less durable , steering wheel cover
Hopefully , I am not the only one who has this problem and ,
hopefully , some one else may have found a cure for this problem .
I have too many years of exposure to certain chemicals that are essential to the processes of the industry I work in .
This now leaves me a dermatitis problem that requires I use an ointment as treatment for It .
This relates to the Ranger in the way the pleather steering wheel cover is being degraded by remnants /residue from the treatment ,
it seems to not matter how much I wash my hands before going to drive the Ranger and , with this condition I have to avoid using soaps and cleaners as they are also skin irritants .
The oils used in the ointment are dissolving the wheel cover , turning it from semi rigid smooth shiny to thin slippery rough sticky
kind of surface that dries out to become prickly and abrasive feeling until enough sweat is put onto it that it softens .
Question then is ;
Is there a wheel cover that resists this in the long term or is there a covering that can be applied that has durability in the longer term?
hopefully , some one else may have found a cure for this problem .

Try Blackmans leather for a "proper" leather cover. If that's what you can have . I had the seats and steering wheel done by them about five years back and very happy. cheers, Butch.

Hey Excouncil
I have been using one of these for the past 2 and a bit years. It has served me well with good grip even when hands are wet and is easily replaceable for just over $20. Maybe this might give a solution and if it get ruined quickly is only $20 to replace.

Just a thought.

The trimmer who did my Chev has just warned me about this and leather , no go , he said .
It seems that light oils , such as they use in pharmaceuticals and general chemistry are , very damaging to leather .

My steering wheel was wearing away in one spot so I just got one of those Supercheap ones today. So far feels really good with more grip. I checked out the other covers there but the contour stitch felt by far the best in my hands.

Yeah it’s the first time in a long time they got my $$$. Only been 2 days but the cover makes a substantial difference to driving comfort.

Yep, isn't it funny how a cheap thing like this can make such a difference. Makes the steering wheel feel a bit thicker at the start but you get over that pretty quickly when driving is so much easier.

Yes Kmart have a sometimes there, sometimes not, "real" leather cover for $11.00 that I use on 3 of our cars. Goes on fairly easily and grips the wheel underneath well. Feels good in your hands. When it gets dirty and sticky just throw and replace.
