Just wondering which is better, the Tickford ECU tune or independent. Has anyone had this done? What's the performance like?
In standard trim the Ranger lacks Torque and some power.

Re: ECU remap Ranger XLT
The Tickford tune would be a very mild reflash where as a proper tune on a dyno would be tailored to your vehicle.
You're more likely to make more power and torque with a reputable tuner.

Re: ECU remap Ranger XLT
I haven't had any experience with the Tickford tune but I have had experience with a number of options after owning a PX1 and a PX2. I had a plug in unit from Willall Racing on my PX1 which worked great but was like having a bag of snakes under the bonnet. On the PX2 I firstly tried ECU West which was O.K but I was also after a tune to hopefully help with the hopeless CVT like auto transmission. I ended up with BPT Performance which offers the best of all worlds with multiple tunes engine and transmission wise, all direct via the OBD2 port.
Note: The transmission is still CVT like until the TC locks in at 3rd gear.
Cheers

How have you found the tune Shane?
I'm considering upgrading from a PX1 to a PX3 eventually and want to tune it straight away.
My current PX1 manual weighs in at around 2800KG and struggles to hold 110km/h up a hill.

Re: ECU remap Ranger XLT
This came from a fella that tunes all sorts of diesels from small, trucks on to powerstation engines. He wasn't trying to sell me anything as mine has been tuned for years.
His take was, if you are going racing or want a very quick vehicle then a dyno is required, if you want an everyday tune you don't need a dyno. BUT! He said, it is a must for the tuner to road test the vehicle and make sure parameters are within a safe range and won't cause engine damage.
One think he does have, is very expensive software form Europe.
Tickford would be a safe tune as it is Ford affiliated, the only down side is the price.
