Crank position sensor

Hi guys

Having intermittent no start just cranks
I have heard the crank position sensor on the rangers have a problem
I have a 2018xlt
Has anyone had this issue and did they have it replaced or done it them selfs

I have not had a issue with mine yet, I have changed them on other cars as they are a common thing that fails.

Might be worth reading if it has codes, it should have logged something.

I have just changed a motor and its located on the right of the engine at the right top of the bell housing, 1 bolt and a connector, just be careful fitting the new one as you can adjust it up and down, it does not have a fixed position, it can hit against the flywheel if you push it down hard.

Might be a idea to mark the old one before removal and mark the new one at the same point when its out.

I think you fit it onto a tooth and it creates the air gap on first rotation. I believe second hand sensors create issues.

Ok the new sensor comes with a sacrificial bit that gets shaved of with the revolutions of the motor, when I refitted mine I just measured the gap and positioned it with the same Gap.

If you are buying a new one it will find its own height and create its own airgap.

No, its on the rear of the motor on the right top of the bell housing, it has 1 8mm bolt holding it in and a plug

Hey mate so did or have you done it before and what can I expect or how much did it cost to replace it.
Did you say it's not a gearbox out job ??

here is a video that will show you where the crank angle sensor and the bolt that holds it is. The gearbox doesn't have to come out to change a faulty sensor.

This video is just about replacing the sensor bracket so you can disregard it. The only thing you are concerned with, is the location of the sensor and bolt.
