Replacing pistons

Post by THE-WIZARD-OF-OZ »

Hello all. I’m new to this forum and my name is Wez. I was wondering if anyone can help me. I recently dismantled my engine but left it in. I’ve removed everything needed to change the pistons. I’ve removed 4 out of 5. I can’t reach the 5th so I tried removing the top oil expansion. For the life of me I can’t seem to get it out. I’ve searched everywhere but I can’t find what’s holding it in. If anyone has done this themselves, could you please advise me how to remove this. I’ve spent 2 days looking over the engine with no luck. The vehicle is a 2014 PX Ranger. Thanks in advance.1

I found with some engines I worked on there might be a slight carbon build up on the piston bore creating a slight lip which prevents easy removal, I found if you work (move) the piston up and down it will eventually free itself from the bore.

It’s not actually the piston that’s the problem, it’s the oil pan expansion stopping me from getting the 5th piston out. The reason I’m changing the pistons is because number 4 piston was cracked.

Go to Full Editor & preview below, open it and then click on attachments, then click on Add files, select the photo and it will add it.

You will have to resize the photo first so in as the file will be to big to load. I reduce it down to 28% and that is small enough to load the file. The photo file will come up below Add files, then just hit submit.

While you have the pan off it is worthwhile to change the oil pump to a gear type one. Also change the piston coolers (oil squirters ). A couple of mine were blocked at 50000 ks
