Looking at purchasing a new ranger, but the V6 is hard to come by in Aus and I need to purchase quickly.
Have found a Sport V6 and a Wildtrak Bi-turbo. The Wildtrak is actually cheaper by about $2000 at $70,000. (Sport V6 is $72,000)
Is it worth paying the extra for the V6 engine and and going with the Sport but missing out on the extra wildtrak features, better interior etc?

Buy the V6 if you plan to tow regularly. If not the 2.0 will be just fine.

I personally would go the V6, the Bi Turbo is good for the wife to go shopping, the V6 is a proven work horse in other platforms, Just a personal opinion

I'd go with the V6. Mate traded his bi-turbo in one one. Reckons it's heaps better, especially if you're towing heavy loads.

I'd love to get one but they're as rare as rocking horse doo-doo.

V6 will be better for more heavy towing but will be thirsty for urban driving where the Bi Turbo will be more economical to run but still quite capable for most towing.
Both good engines whichever you choose.

Like others have said, V6 is definitely the stronger option so if you spend a lot of time loaded up or towing then then V6 is definitely the pick.

The 2.0 is OK if you're only ever lightly loaded. It does the job admirably, but you could never accuse it of being a power house. Mid-range speed/power is good when the 10 speed can keep the motor on the boil, but the old adage of "there's no replacement for displacement" rings true when pulling away from a standing start. Even with the bi-turbo set up it's still not got much get up and go from a standing start, even solo. Try pulling out into fast moving traffic with a 3T caravan on the back with the 2.0 and you'll be wishing you bought the V6.

Me personally, after nearly 3 years with the 2.0 I'm still happy that I made the right choice for my mix of driving BUT now that the V6 is available, I'd certainly go the V6 if I were to get another one, even if it means dropping spec levels to get it.

V6 is the way to go.

Hi All, Just adding my comment to this thread - remember if you go with the new V6 expect higher fuel consumption. Totally agree with other comments to purchase the V6 if your going to be towing heavy trailers regularly though I have owned previous the 3.2 litre. Was hesitant to drop to the bi-turbo 2.0 litre but it was the right move in my opinion, have a canopy on the XLT, carry around 700 kgs in the back constantly - bought an iDrive and that made a big difference to the responsiveness of the vehicle. I have found the the 10 speed transmission makes a big difference on long climbs over the 3.2 litre variant. Often tow a 750 kg trailer as well and still makes marginal difference to performance though fuel economy as expected deteriorates by a couple of litres per 100 kms.

Mate just got his V6 hes loving it and said no regret selling his 200 series. Same power more economy and towing ease
