Did an oil change today and when I fired it she was leaking oil from the filter head. Did what I always do, oiled and replaced the o-ring, torqued the filter cover to 25nm but for some reason leaking, maybe the o-ring or the cover. Well I thought I will replace the cover to be sure. I rang Ford and price was $178 for a bit of nylon, I then rang Mazda and was given the super low eofy price of a bit over $400, I said, I don't want the whole filter housing only the screw on cover, reply, yep that is all your getting. Talk about getting screwed.
Did the ebay thing and I could get them for between $30 and $40, settled for a Tridon one as they are a main stream brand for $70 delivered.
Well I've had my bitch, now to settle down to a few quiet vinos from my fine collection of casks or maybe a Bundy rum or three.
Oil filter cap
Re: Oil filter cap
I find the prices can be a hit & miss with dealerships, don't know if you remember but when the rangers were first released some had issues with oil filter housings leaking, my one was replaced under warranty in the first 12 months of ownership. I knew of at least 3 owners who suffered the same fate, something to think about if you have ongoing problems.

Re: Oil filter cap
Trublu, I hope mine is not a housing issue, it is hard to tell, I might borrow a friends borescope and have a closer look.Trublu wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 6:58 pm I find the prices can be a hit & miss with dealerships, don't know if you remember but when the rangers were first released some had issues with oil filter housings leaking, my one was replaced under warranty in the first 12 months of ownership. Re: Oil filter cap
Have only just got back to the oil leak, you would think a retired bloke would have plenty of time on his hands.
I did get a new cap but when I removed the old one I couldn't find anything wrong with it or the o-ring. I installed a new filter and o-ring in the old cap and all was good. What I did notice was the cap was very tight, so I either accidentally set the torque wrench too high or the torqe wrench has a problem.
When I went to torque it didn't seem right and I gave the torque wrench a work out holding the extension 1/2' drive in the vice. The result was the torque wrench by feel, then seemed to be releasing around the right NM setting.
Nice to have a good ending.
