Breaking windscreen to remove interior rear view mirror???

Hi guys,
Not yet but getting frustrated !!! Looking at removing the rear view mirror on my xl to fit a dedicated rear view camera monitor as a substitute as have no rear vision with my Ali canopy. Does the mirror bracket slide onto a plate that is glued to the screen or is it all one unit. It appears to slide onto a plate, have released little lock tab at top but won't budge! Anyone removed theirs and any tips appreciated.

Got it... A little bit of persuasion with a hammer did the trick- little spring loaded clip at the top front of the mirror post, slide it down to disengage and give a tap upward on the mirror post to free. It appears when you slide the locking clip down it twists a bit and doesn't fully disengage so the little tap is to get it past that last little lip on the catch. Hope this helps someone down the track

Well the only glass I ended up breaking (on purpose) was the mirror itself, had to give it a few hard hits with the hammer to break as well. First couple hits just bounced off, tough glass!! The reason to break the mirror was to extract the swivel mechanism to mount the monitor on. These mechanisms can be just popped out of the mirror back and are quite compact. So I will now be mounting my 7" monitor to the factory mirror post and swivel mechanism to keep a nice factory look to the install. Will post some pics once it is done with tips for anyone wanting to do something similar. Very happy with how it is turning out so far!!

Hi all, how hard a tap did you have to give it? I hit it a few times with the rubber mallet but no luck?
Anyone else had any joys with removing the mirror from XLS?

That's is so funny I just tapped the mirror bracket on the inside and my window cracked.

Yes, I removed the factory mirror and replaced it with a reversing camera/mirror.
On my XLS, it was over a year ago, but it was not difficult....

Man then I must be doing something wrong. I have pushed the two little tabs in but it just will not come off.

Try and push the tab in square, once i had mine off could see how it twisted a bit when pushing in and didn't fully disengage, light tap upwards was all I needed to free mine!

Hi,
Yes, I did remove the stock mirror and install a reversing camera/mirror in its place.
It was almost a year ago on my XLS, but it was simple.
