Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
No one pulled theirs out????
Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
Pull the lens off the light.
You'll see a silver tab at the front of the light housing. Just lever that to unclip it and the light comes out.

Fitting a light to the ignition barrel?

trentski wrote:it's done and dusted, so here's what I would do if I was doing it again.
Tools needed
torx bit, size T20
I used a long bit of wire with a hook on the end
flat blade screwdriver
Get the interior light out.
I took the lens bit off and at the back edge there is a silver tab with a silver tab behind it, use your screwdriver to flick this 2nd tab forward so you can pull the back of the light down. Then wiggle and jiggle and pull the light out.
There's 4 plugs in the back of the light, the two outside ones are for the side lights, the two at the front edge are the ones you're interested in, but leave them for now.
Pull the A pillar trim off
pull the door rubber off or at least back a bit so you can grab the a pillar trim, pull it outwards so you clear the pins and then back towards you to get it off the dash. You'll have to do some wiggling and jiggling here as well. Once it is off throw it in the back seat, if you have a single cab skip that step.
run cable under Hood lining
You can now get your fingers under the hood lining and lever it out a little. Get the ring thing with the LEDs on it and slide it through the hole where the light used to be and out the front of the hood lining. Don't pull it hard or you will pull it off the wires.
Feed it through until you have left enough to plug it in and then feed it under the hood lining till it comes out under where the A pillar cover will go back on.
Under the dash.
If you look down from the A pillar you can see the floor, drop the ring thing through here till it hits the floor.
Steering shroud
If you push in and up above the indicator stalk and wiper sticks you can pop the top up and off. Turning the wheel to the right and left will show you the torx screws to undo so the bottom shroud loosens off. There is a third one underneath that I also undid but I don't know how important that was.
install the light ring
Get your bit of wire and stick it down the gap above the steering column, hook your light up to it and pull it back up. With the LEDs facing outwards wriggle it and jiggle it until it is over the ignition barrel, then clip the other bit onto it with the steering shroud in the middle.
Plug the light in
Put on sunglasses. Undo the two middle plugs on the interior light, plug them into the harness and then plug the harness into the interior light. Check everything works like its suppose to, this is where the sunglasses will save you from welders flash.
Stick the interior light back in the roof
Wiggle and jiggle it, front first then back bit, it will snap into place. Check it all works again. put the lens back on, check it again
Put the steering shroud back together.
wiggle and jiggle it all back into place then do up the torx screws, then clip the top bit in. Make sure its all in place and the indicators work like they should.
Put the A pillar trim back on
There's a yellow thing on a "string" that you need to pop off the A pillar before you can put the trim back on. I have no idea how to get this off, it slides up and down, maybe it slides and you can pop it out in a certain part of the slide. I don't know, I broke stuff then fluked it.
Push the bottom of the trim into place on the dash, you need to be quite firm in order to line up the pins that go into the A pillar itself. I wound my excess wire around one of the pins in the trim, but you could cable tie it all up under the dash. When you have the trim hard into the dash get that yellow thing and slide it into the slot on the trim. With the door rubber out of the way push the trim home and it should all click into place.
Sunglasses back on and check that everything works like it is supposed to.
be happy you can now put the key in the keyhole at night
Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
Trentski, Good write up on the key surround light mate. Do you know how to get the whole panel off, want to remove the sunglass holder and put a switch panel in its place. Anyone got any tips as don't want to break anything!

Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
Alpha, i just removed mine, firstly follow the above steps (remove clear cover from light and pull out secondary silver tab) light section drops out and you'll see two torx screws. Undo the two screws then unclip front section. You then slide the whole unit forwards (there is two retaining tabs at the rear, by sliding the unit foward you'll see them. Hold the sunglass unit and slid the metal retainer back (now the front and rear of the holder is loose) lastly there is upside down L type clips on the sides you need to lift and push the side trims in to disengage the metal retainer then drop the whole unit
Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
I am having a bugger of a time removing the sunglass holder/light panel. Can anyone give me a tip on doing so. I have slid it forward so the rear clips are exposed but it won't come down at all.

Im not sure about this last step?

Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
nice write up Alpha but I need to know a bit more, I have to get onto the aerial assembly base to remove it because it is broken, so when I get the whole overhead unit out, do you know if that will give me access to the bolt or nuts which hold the base of the aerial unit in place because I need to replace it, I hope I don't have to remove the roof lining! I would appreciate any further help I can get on this matter, thanks!NTMID8 wrote:Alpha, i just removed mine, firstly follow the above steps (remove clear cover from light and pull out secondary silver tab) light section drops out and you'll see two torx screws. Just take out the sunglasses holder and have a look. It will need to come out regardless, and you’ll have experience doing the job!! Let us know what you find

Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
Looking at the pics in this ad, it seems like there’s the single nut that holds the base tight. Hopefully you can access it through the light or sunglasses cavity without roof lining removal. Best of luck

Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
That's what I'm hoping Ford Fan but then there is also the wiring to consider, I should receive the new unit today, then I will remove the light and see what it looks like in there, it would make sense that they design it in a way that one gets all the access needed for the removal and installation of the aerial unit through that opening because it is right underneath the aerial base! I will let you know!
Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
Happy days, I didn't have to remove the roof liner to remove the aerial base out, it is easily accessible through the light opening once that is removed but it is better to remove the whole console otherwise it is hard to unclip the antenna wire!Ford fan81 wrote:Looking at the pics in this ad, it seems like there’s the single nut that holds the base tight. Hijacking the thread as reading the above prompted me to order a key entry light surround, but there does not appear to be one for the Ranger PK11 MK11?
Can someone confirm;)

sorry that you had the inconvenience of having to replace your aerial. On a positive though it was good for the rest of us to learn from you. Well done

I am over the moon, I got the console out without having to remove the roof lining! light comes out first this exposes the 2 screws which hold the console frame, remove them and then wiggle and jiggle until you get the whole thing out!alpha1 wrote:Hey guys,

Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
Don't try to get the front out first, put it back in, then push the whole unit forward and while pushing it forward (to get the rear clips in the clear) you just pull it out, the front only has a spring similar to spring tabs in a battery compartment from some remote controls or anything else running on batteries, it is very easy to get out as long as you push it forward to dis engage the tabs on the rear, I will get you some photos! The same goes for the console frame, it has to be pushed forward and with this one you get the rear out first because it has long tabs and once they are out you pull it back a bit to disengage the front ones and then wiggle it from side to side, it has two small clips on each side, I broke one or it was broken already but they are not important, have fun, glad to be of help, I received my new aerial base today, so tomorrow it all goes back together, it should be easy☺Jesselear wrote:So I’m at this point but can’t seem to get it out? I forgot to mention, the sunglasses holder can not be removed at this stage, it can only be removed once the whole console is out but there should be no need to remove it anyway unless it is broken/serviceableJesselear wrote:So I’m at this point but can’t seem to get it out? Any tricks??

Hey mate, when you mean push the whole unit forward do you mean the light assembly or light and console?Highrider wrote:Don't try to get the front out first, put it back in, then push the whole unit forward and while pushing it forward (to get the rear clips in the clear) you just pull it out, the front only has a spring similar to spring tabs in a battery compartment from some remote controls or anything else running on batteries, it is very easy to get out as long as you push it forward to dis engage the tabs on the rear, I will get you some photos! Sorry mate it’s just not making sense to me
Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
The light assembly first, then once that is out you have to remove the 2 self tapping screws out which hold the console in place, you will need a Torx T20 for that (similar to a allen key but not the same). Then the console comes out, it also has to be pushed forward to get the big tabs at the back out, the side tabs are the difficult part on that one but it can be done!Jesselear wrote:Hey mate, when you mean push the whole unit forward do you mean the light assembly or light and console?Highrider wrote:Don't try to get the front out first, put it back in, then push the whole unit forward and while pushing it forward (to get the rear clips in the clear) you just pull it out, the front only has a spring similar to spring tabs in a battery compartment from some remote controls or anything else running on batteries, it is very easy to get out as long as you push it forward to dis engage the tabs on the rear, I will get you some photos! Re: Removing sunglasses holder/light panel???
Today comes the fun part of putting it all back together, it might prove to be more tricky than pulling it apart because of the metal retainer which goes inside the roof liner but I will try my best ☺
After a bit more panel beating where the aerial base made a dent when breaking I installed the new aerial base and gave it a good blast with the water hose to make sure I had no leaks on the inside then put back the console, it went well and I'm glad it's done
