MK2 XLS sports bar addition

Post by nsmit182 »

Hi all,
picked up my XLS this week, loving it!!

Bought a sports bar off of gumtree and fitted it no problems, just wondering if anyone else has done so, and what they did with the top brake light on the back window. The cable behind it isnt very long and the plug doesnt match the XLT sports bar which is under the front left pipe, i was going to get an auto elec mate to rewire it on the weekend, but i was wondering if theres an easy solution as im sure alot of people would have done this. Also im thinking of leaving the brake light on the car, just for water proofing etc due to the cable holes behind it, unless theres a blank cap you can buy?

Nick - can you post updates on this when you make progress? I'm planning on picking up a sports bar on the weekend, so you're one step ahead.

Have you checked out the standard XLS top brake light at night? It's designed to also light the tray and it does a half decent job. Seems like a good idea to keep it working if possible.

I too would love to see some pics as I'm soon to mount a wildtrak roller shutter to my XLS and that roof brake light will have to go.

Also very interested to see the outcome of this, however, I am going the other direction. Got a PX MKII XLT and want to remove the sports bar. Ford wouldn't do it due to legality.

I am looking to fit the XLS brake light onto the cab (the one with tray illumination).

Keep us updated!

Same as mk1 leave the light on cab plugged in. Can't see it behind sports bars any way. Wire sports bar light to right hand brake light

For anyone considering doing the same, I fitted a Mk I sports bar to a Mk II XLS last week. Due to the Mk II XLT bars having "tub illumination" the electrical connectors don't match up. Easy enough to splice it in though, just match up the color of the wires.

Moral to the story: it would be preferable for Mk II owners to buy a Mk II sports bar if possible.

Does the mk2 xl and xls have the spare plug for sports bar under tub?

Mk II XLS certainly has the plug. It in the wheel arch next to the fuel filler.

ARB sell a cover that you replace the PX mk2 XLS third brake light with. You have to remove the third brake light when you fit a canopy. It costs $61.

Hi Guys, new to forum.

I am about to fit Wildtrack rear tub complete to my XLS, and wondering if the forward fin will hit the cab 3rd brake light.

Regards to last post, ARB do not do a blanking plate for light removal (says two Brisbane stores). If there is a blanking plate, any chance for part number??

Cheers

Ok guys, BT-50 here...

There is a plug blanked off at the end of the tub on my vehicle, can't imagine what else it can be for. Will be fitting my bar in the coming days and confirm.
Still had the take the wheel arch cover off to feed the cable though.

Well, very disappointed, that white plug spliced from the tail light harness is not for the brake lights.
It's in the junction where towbar wiring joins the tail light wiring, but no idea what it's for...

Late reply, but i'd guess it's for the 12v plug in the tub liners?

I think only last of the 2016 and all of the 2017 XLS's and maybe XL's (Models with reverse camera and sensors) have the spare plug.

It will be parking sensors, the plug to hookup is just forward of the LH rear wheel behind the inner wheel arch.
