Tailgate damper kits
Re: Tailgate damper kits
Bought a Pro lift a few months ago , finally decided to give it a go to install this thing yesterday. Went to buy the tool to remove the bumper ( Trojan Torax screwdriver https://www.trojantools.com.au/product/ ... rewdriver/) , tried to remove one screw , can't , too hard. Then I discover that the towbar is in the way anyway so I wouldn't be able to remove some of them in any case. Only option is to get it installed by someone ( at what cost I don't know) or put it on ebay.

Re: Tailgate damper kits
Hey Linc,
I am sure AlexLupo will confirm but this is the same that I fitted to mine. It has a single dampener and two springs that are placed into the hinges to provide the lift assist.
To install I removed the rear bumper to get access to the hinges of the tailgate by using a socket and breaker bar to spin out the bolts holding the bumper to the chassis. I think the Torx bits were only needed to fit the bracket for the single dampener on the drivers side.
If the torx screws are a little tight, I would suggest two possible solutions, first off return this tool to bunnings and buy one of these. https://www.bunnings.com.au/kincrome-9- ... t_p6120346. These work much better as you have more leverage. Or if you want to keep the existing tool, maybe place the appropriate Torx bit into a cordless drill and carefully spin it out.
Hope this helps.

Thanks DJ , I'll go and buy that tool you put in the link and give it a try.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Tailgate damper kits
Before buying the tool I had a good look and there is no space between the tow bar and the bumper to be able to fit any tool for removing the screws. Might have to take a loss and put it on ebay at half price or get a quote to get it installed

Hey mate, which screws are you trying to remove. I am a little confused to be honest.
Maybe put up a photo of what you are trying to do. Where are you locate?
Mine didn't take long to fit and would be happy to talk if you need to.
Cheers

Hi DJ , to install this thing I have to remove the bumper first but with the towbar it's a problem. 2 of the screws are impossible
to remove , no enough space to put any tool in between.
This is the one I have : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3jKHs6i2eY

Re: Tailgate damper kits
Hey mate, I have fitted the same one but fortunately I don't have a factory towbar. At the time of fitting I only had the bumper but now have a TJM rear bar. God knows what I will do if I need to replace it.
There is a supplier in VIC https://unibee4x4.com.au/prolift-tailga ... JIQAvD_BwE that might be kind enough to offer some guidance with your install.
Sorry but the best I can suggest, otherwise maybe try another supplier. I know that there is a supplier in Perth http://www.sportsrange.com.au/4x4-acces ... tailgate-5 where I purchased mine. If they can help, I would suggest purchasing something from them for their time. We need to support local businesses.

Sorry one other thing I thought I might post is the install instructions for a Milford tow bar. I know it is not the factory one but looks similar and might help with your problem.

There is also the fitting instructions for a Hayman Reese that might help.

Forget it . Should have done some research before buying it.
Re: Tailgate damper kits
Thanks , I'll look into it
Re: Tailgate damper kits
After forgetting about it for a while I've decided to put mine on ebay at a loss (Prolift)
I'll look into something else easier to install

Re: Tailgate damper kits
This morning went to get a quote for a canopy and I ask the guy about installing the damper , he told me there's no need to remove the towbar and explained to me how to install it. Not that difficult to do but not confident with the electric part of it (disconnecting and reconnecting wires) so they are going to install it for me when the install the canopy for a 200 bucks .Well, the 'damper saga' is over .
