Tomma's metro grey PX XLT

Post by tomma101 »

Just recently got a PX XLT so I show a few pics of it and what I have planned for it.

It is a 2015 build XLT that I got from a dealer as a demo model with 5500ks on the clock, came with and ARB summit bar, IPF HID spotlights, window tint, BF Goodrich AT tires and 2 sets of rubber floor mats (The standard ford rubber mats and a set of Bushranger mats)

Mods I have planned are-
Plastidip rims and possibly badges
K&N intake filter
Bushskinz underbody armour
OME 2" lift
Winch
Dominator sliders
ARB rear view camera
LED mounted on the sports bar for lighting up the tub (Have 2 LED bars from my last car for that)
Front and rear weathershields (already ordered)
Bonnet protector

Once I get through the AT tires I'll swap the wheels out for 33" Mickey Thompsons, but for now the AT ties will do just fine I reckon

Ok, so I spent a bit of time today plastidipping the stock ford wheels, came up pretty good with only a few spots where it pooled a slight amount but I wasn't being too fussy with it. Only masking I did was behind the wheels so I didn't get plastidip on the brakes, other than that I pretty much went over everything, wheel nuts and all.

Only needed a bit under 2 cans to get the job done which was a bit less then what I expected to use, even had some left over to spray the XLT badge.

Welcome tomma.

Wheels look good. Im considering doing the same to mine. Will eventually buy new wheels but after seeing your results it might be a good short term option. Will be interested to see how they last.

Yeh it is only a short term thing for me as well, I figured that I got the truck with all terrain tires so I may as well get some use out of them before changing up. As for wear it should fare pretty well, I painted the front bottom lip on the missus' mazda 3 and it has held up pretty well.

You can get better results if you take your time with it, but I never even degreased the wheels, just wiped them clean and sprayed away. I didn't leave much time between coats either which didn't help as it got a bit thick in some spots and pooled a bit in some places.

Small update, Firstly I ordered underbody protection from bushskinz, got front guard, sump and transmission guard coming and should hopefully have it before the week is out.

Got my weathershields and fitted them up, not bad for the cheapest Ebay had to offer.

Got some all weather protective specialty tape to protect the tub cap lip. The tape blends in pretty well with the body work is pretty thick so it should do well against general wear from loading stuff into the tub.

Once I get the bash plates I'll chuck some photos up of them fitted

Got the Bushskinz bash plates fitted up this arvo with only minimal swearing, plates are 4mm, are very solid and should take a decent beating. Plus they look pretty great.

Stock front plate and sump plate next to the Bushskinz front, sump and transmission plates.

The tape is from bunnings, some sort of thick outdoor protection tape, it has lasted really well up until now but has recently started cracking, luckily it should only be a 15 minute job to replace it.

Quick pic of it getting dirty. I also got my Ford oem switch panel today, $10 and mounts in the centre console under the ciggie lighters.

Im at work so i cant take any pics of it but i do have this pic of it with the part number.

You will need to do afew mods to make it fit i think but it looks pretty straight forward, it also covers the aux and usb ports so you will need to relocate them if you want to use them.

Once i get the switches and bits needed to relocate the aux and usb ill do a write up on it, but that could be a while cos its all coming from china and we know how long that can take

Ok so all the bits and pieces came and I managed to get it all working, I already had the lights wired up to those mouse switches so I only needed to convert them to rocker switches and get the panel to fit.

There isn't a lot of room between the switch panel and the dash pocket area it sits in front of so it can be a pain to get it all to fit but if you have issues taking a dremel to your interior you will be sweet.

Each switch two lights, one is wired to come on with ignition and the other, brighter light comes on when the high beams are on. The right hand panel is where I relocated the usb and aux ports using a cheap extension kit from eBay.

All up it cost about $35 to buy everything for the install as I had some auto wiring for the job.Image

I’ve got the same switch and am having to make the decision if I cut the panel behind it. Is there any issues to be aware of before I take the dremil to it?

Does anyone know if these are still available and if so, where you may be able to get your hands on one?
