Hey bud have a look here all models have trailer sway , I think you have to be using the factory tow pack ( as in the controller under the seat and factory trailer plug ) though.

Re: Cool white XLS build up
got my xls back today after it was at the dealer for 3 days. new gear knob chrome release and boot fitted, new cruise control and volume control buttons on steering wheel replaced under warranty. was in for repeated squeaking rear brakes. inside face of shoe was rubbing on backing plate when brakes applied. made the most annoying squeak. had gouged the backing plate. i asked them to replace the shoes and machine the drums. they wouldnt do it, said it only need lubing. took them 3 days. got a bill for 200 bux. not happy. 200 bux to clean and reassemble rear drum setup and apply some lube. yeah nah. i just got ripped!

Re: Cool white XLS build up
I’d call that reamed without lube, heck $200 is very steep!
Re: Cool white XLS build up
New boots today. 60k which is good given the weight and use.
Disappointed the KM3 isnt on the shelf yet despite its recent launch

Howdy Linc
You'd have to be pretty happy with 60 k out of set of muddies - and as you say the load they carry and the work they do !
The new KM3's don't look a real lot different but I'm sure the designers have made some improvements to make them better than the KM2's
Cheers

Hey Linc
I've seen where you work and play so obviously you need muddies but where I live, work and play a good All Terrain is all I need as the closest I get to mud is dust and sand without water added
Very happy with my Toyo AT2's - been extremely good for what I do and with just over 70 thousand k's on them I reckon they could easily see 80 and if I drive like my wife possibly a 100 k
Cheers and beers and see you soon !!

Mate - I have no doubt you could handle that situation easier than Cameron Bancroft can scuff up a cricket ball with sand paper !lincolnland wrote:started sliding sideways on the free yestie in the wet on a bend so thought id better keep it safe

Re: Cool white XLS build up
i ran bfg all terrain ko2s for many years. terrific tyre smooth and quiet on the bitumen and ok in the dry offroad. got sick of getting bogged so upgraded to muds a few years back. the down time in getting bogged on the site for one of my crews and for me or others recovering them in dollar terms easily pays the diff in price between muds and a/t's. the old bfg a/t's used to be good for round 90k as long as they were rotated and alignment kept in check (impossible in a hilux thats used everyday offroad!!). interestingly two of my 2015 hiluxes have 80+ km on their bfg km2 muds and still got another 10 left in them. myst be the weight difference in the ranger v hiluz as well as their varied use compared to my everyday offroad shananigans. cheers!

wood cutting season again and took the xls up to wombat/lerdederg with a coupler tonne on the back. effortlessly got through the mud and ruts. coupler pics of the lerdederg river was great to see it flowing again. our last 4x4 trip up there saw the river bone dry. cheers

Those old fence posts are awesome firewood, usually solid old box of some description or ironbark if you’re lucky. What size saw is that you have? Stihl? I love Stihl chainsaws, currently got 3 and hoping to negotiate on number 4

Re: Cool white XLS build up
yeah ive a a coupler stihls. its a big one. heavy on the hands aftef 4-5hrs of cutting but super powerful. its a farm boss running tungsten chains. can remember what bar either 22 or 24. something like that.
Re: Cool white XLS build up
How do you find the tungsten chains go. Do they stay sharper longer. Ive been meaning to get a hardend chain to see if they last. Normal chains last about 15 minutes in the box wood up here

Re: Cool white XLS build up
Heck, is the box wood full of mud or something? I can usually cut a couple of trailer loads of greybox before I need to sharpen them up but I’m pretty fussy about trying to not cut dirty bark or hit the ground when cutting. I’ve got a Stihl 20” tungsten chain and at around $160 it’s a great investment. They cut a lot of dirty wood and need sharpening a lot less often. They need to be sharpened at a shop though with a diamond grinding wheel.gordo350 wrote:How do you find the tungsten chains go. Do they stay sharper longer. Re: Cool white XLS build up
wouldn't use anything but tungsten..genuine stihl off the roll made to length. used to use standard chain but they are absolute crap compared to the tungstens. cut that trailer load of wood and most of the posts had dirt and shiza on them from being removed out of the ground. then cut a stack a semi burnt (charcoal ringed) stringy bark and its still sharp. only had to retension chain once. my tip: dont ever buy anything but tungsten

Re: Cool white XLS build up
Sorry to keep this thread off topic but I like to use standard chains for cutting clean green wood and save the tungsten for dirty stuff.
Re: Cool white XLS build up
yeah fresh green stuff is soft as baby shiza. generally i only collect and cut old hardwood farm fence posts. heavy buggers at 6ft each
Re: Cool white XLS build up
Looks like you removed the trailer springs and the guards are sitting on the tyres!!!!

Re: Cool white XLS build up
yeah i agree! very very heavy load. had the tyres smoking as the rubbed on the guards on the bumps in the track. i shouldn't be running 17inch rims on the trailer but theyre all i had after i blew the tyres on hume going to the meetup. these rims and tyres are actually my skids rims and tyres for the barra car
gunner upgrade the trailer springs when i get a chance. not enough hrs in the week!

Re: Cool white XLS build up
Just popped the drives side front drive shaft/cv? Not happy jan

Re: Cool white XLS build up
didn't you also have oil spitting out of the front differential after driving with different rolling circumference tires front to rear?

Re: Cool white XLS build up
got the xls back today. so has taken 5 days to get the front drive shaft issue resolved. after many phone calls to the dealer and little result i was told the driveshaft issue would not be covered by warranty as the vehicle had non standard tyres (i have 265 km2 tyres from new fitted by the same dealer) and was also told i had modified suspension which i certainly do NOT! i had to have a serious conversation with the service rep advising him the vehicle was exactly as they sold it to me - not a single mod after sales... he didnt accept that and assured me his workshop foreman knew best and advised these alleged (non existant) mods voided my warranty. infuriated i told them I'd be in after work to have these modifications pointed out to me. they refused that and said theyd get back to me. no response. on the phone again next day asking when car would ready... dealer advised me they cant start until payment is established as it wasnt warranty. let go a few choice explanations that got them listening and whata you know! a phone call apologizing profusely saying there was a mix up and they had made a mistake. so the cause - the driveshaft on the front drivers side had stripped its splines and simply dropped out of the diff and subsequently the cv had fallen apart. they showed me the parts this morning - splines almost smooth on the shaft. i asked for a reasoning as to why it would happen with only 60k on the clock and was told dust had entered the axel and caused the wear. anyway all fixed all under warranty. back on the road
depending on who i deal with, service and warranty can be a pleasure or a massive pain in the a5s.

G'day Linc, good to see sense prevailed. I firmly believe the quality of the dealer is the most important part of vehicle ownership. My local dealer is very good to get along with. Cheers, Butch.
Re: Cool white XLS build up
hey mate great to hear your back around. hope things are as well as they can be. yeah i agree, your local dealer is a champ of a bloke. be nice if a bit of country care would find its way to the big smoke down here. will hopefully catchup on dangers simo trip. cheers

Re: Cool white XLS build up
Hey link that story the ford service department told you is nothing but a down right lie intended to mislead you in my opinion, from memory the ACCC has $200’000 fine for individuals who intended to mislead you. How can dust get in there as it would have to get past the oil seal with oil the oil leaking out?
I would be furious being told such bullship, they can’t be this stupid it’s a lie nothing but a lie haven’t they ever put a driveshaft into a diff there’s oil in there. Bulldust what a load of crap
Heres our old mate macmanluke have a look at the pictures

Re: Cool white XLS build up
i agree bill. they do try and take the p155 if they get a customer thats not familiar with mechanicals etc. pretty sh1z considering i spent almost a million bucks with them in 18 months. anyway fixed now and it only has to last 18 months until it gets replaced.
Re: Cool white XLS build up
You’re a very forgiving man after having bought so many fords and being treated like that I wouldn’t blame you if you replace the lot with Mahindras.
Seriously fixed they replaced the diff and drive shaft? It will be stated on you’re warranty docket, or they just put a new drive shaft in and left all the metal in your diff.

Re: Cool white XLS build up
had the xls gack in for the fire fix today. happy days. only problem is now the p/s rack is rooted. so cars in for another visit while they order parts. seriously p155ed now. bloke said rack damage could happened when splines on cv shaft let go. said they didnt check the rack. thought i was going out my mind and imaging the steering wheel was constantly locking/binding after the last repair. this work ute is hurting my productivity now. time wasted when i should earning. higher up the chain is now questioning the reliability and longevity of the rangers in my fleet. i gota agree my xls is not behaving atm. since new 2 cv shafts, invertor module, steering rack, fire fix, countless return visits for rear squeaking brakes. only done 60+ k.
Re: Cool white XLS build up
The efficiency is impressive: new steering rack installed today and car back on the road. I give credit where its due. 24hrs in ford and the rigs running again. Happy days. Hope nothing else breaks!
Re: Cool white XLS build up
front rhino rack mounts left and right completely sheared all rivets from their mounts today. got to work and the roof bars looked like they were on the p155. looked closer and found the only thing holding the roof bar on was the water tank that was attached to it. checked the mounts and both sides completely sheared off! my tip to anyone using any type of rhino rack that uses channel mounts, do NOT rivet them on as the instructions say! use rivnuts and a bolt. rivets are too weak for repeated use on rough roads especially when carrying roof mounted items. i travel on corrugated rough roads every day and it looks like the rivets simply cant handle the rough stuff. mounts have lasted just under 2 years. gives me another repair job tomorrow
