Cruise control keeps cutting out

Post by prj564 »

Hi all, since new my 2016 XLT has an intermittent problem with the cruise control randomly turning off. Can anyone shed some light on what it may be and how to fix it.

I'd be checking you brake light switch on the pedal, might be out of adjustment, loose or defective, could be a loose wire loom connection.

I’m with Trublu, brake light switch.

No offence meant here but another reason is, some travel with their left foot resting very lightly on the brake pedal, I am sure everyone has followed a vehicle where the brake light goes on and off for no reason.

Check the trailer and trailer brake controller wiring too.

Do you have a pedal booster for exhaleration and does the power train light appear on the dash with an ABS signal?

I have been battling this same issue with my 2016 XLT.

Cruise control cuts out and cannot be reactivated.

Orange wrench is illuminated on the dash – sometimes the engine light too but not always.

OB2 reader finds the following code. This could be related to the car entering a sort of 'limp' mode – I have limited acceleration but no other noticeable performance issues (eg. gear changes feel smooth).

Will try looking into the solutions originally posted here and will let you know how I go.

Fault code P0299, Turbo under boost, check your hoses, piping & intercooler for leaks, could also be faulty EGR.
Have a talk to diesel mechanic for more advice.

It it quite common for the intercooler pipes to split, usually the one that goes to the throttle body. Remove it and give it a good inspection for small splits, usually under the top bend.
